One of the new technologies is the “water injection system.”

In essence, it is a system that injects water into the engine, but why inject water?

The answer is “to cool the engine.”

When the engine heats up, it will cause a drop in power even if it does not overheat.

When driving in a sporty or circuit environment, the engine is often used at high speeds, so the water temperature and intake air temperature tend to rise, and when the temperature exceeds a certain level, the ECU will start power saving control to protect the engine. This means that the tuning will not perform as expected.

This is what is known as “heat sagging,” and you may have felt the drop in power due to this heat sagging.

There are various measures to deal with heat sagging, and one of them is water injection.

This is not a tuning to improve power, but a system to prevent power loss due to heat sagging.

The mechanism of water injection is to inject mist-like “water” into the intake pipe just before the fuel ignites, and the heat of vaporization cools the engine.

Generally, the fuel sprayed by the injector vaporizes to perform this function, and directly cooling the combustion chamber is important in the sense that it reduces thermal damage to the piston and cylinder.

In addition, adding water to the fuel and injecting it during acceleration or high-speed driving saves fuel used for cooling and contributes to improving fuel efficiency.

In particular, the GR Supra uses a water-cooled intercooler, which is easily affected by the water temperature and is more likely to rise than an air-cooled intercooler, and the power loss due to heat sagging is noticeable during sports driving such as circuit driving, so we developed it.

As a result, water injection has significantly reduced the power loss due to heat sagging, making it possible to demonstrate the desired performance for a long time.

When you hear about “water” being injected into the engine, you may wonder if the injected water will cause rust or engine trouble such as “water hammer”?

→No problem. The injected water evaporates before combustion in the engine and is discharged along with the exhaust gas, so there is no need to worry about rust.

This set includes a removable throttle spacer made specifically for the GR Supra. The throttle spacer has two NPT screw holes, allowing for the installation of an additional meter by removing it from the intake pipe, or the installation of water injection, NOS, etc.
