JAOS TRIBE, the first in the TRIBE series, was developed in collaboration with ENKEI, an aluminum wheel manufacturer with the top market share both domestically and internationally. Its development started in conjunction with the resale of the Land Cruiser 70. Based on the concept of “wheels suitable for the Land Cruiser 70, which can be said to be an icon of heavy-duty 4WD,” the design motif features a steel wheel with decorative accents. Enkei’s latest manufacturing method, the “MAT PROCESS manufacturing method,” has been adopted. It combines a heritage look with a lightness suitable for modern times.

THE
MAT PROCESS manufacturing method achieves a strength comparable to forging
Cast wheels offer advantages in terms of design freedom and cost, but they have a slight disadvantage in terms of weight compared to forged wheels. Therefore, Japan’s leading wheel manufacturer, Enkei, developed the MAT PROSESS manufacturing method. After the casting process, the rim is strengthened and stretched to achieve material strength comparable to forging. The MAT PROCESS manufacturing method creates wheels that feature both a lightweight rim molded through this process and a disc design unique to casting.

Heavy-duty proof “knurling”
A high coefficient of friction is generated by applying unevenness to the contact area between the tire and the wheel. Reduces tire and wheel spin that occurs during intense acceleration and deceleration such as off-roading. The optimal shape was arrived at as a result of make-and-try efforts that utilized Enkei’s technology cultivated through many years of racing activities and Jaos’ off-road experience.
