•An optimally shaped outlet duct is installed in the optimal position to promote heat dissipation from the radiator core.
•Air is taken in through the NACA ducts on the left and right and released through the outlet duct at the base of the A-pillar.
•This promotes the exhaust of hot air from within the engine compartment, further improving the cooling effect.
•By installing the duct, the layout of the inner rib (backbone) has been revised and its strength has been increased.
•A rain cover is standard equipment for the outlet duct.
Development background of FK8 circuit test
The CIVIC Ty-R FK8 is the first turbocharged Ty-R ever, and with 310 horsepower, it has the potential to be the fastest FF car at the Nürburgring. However, when it comes to circuit driving, it is a vehicle that is subject to severe heat damage in normal conditions. Just increasing the radiator capacity or installing a bonnet with ducts for design does not reduce the water temperature.
Based on our past know-how, VARIS started by developing a cooling bonnet to improve cooling efficiency. In circuit tests, the cooling bonnet achieved a change in water temperature of -5°C compared to the original. Furthermore, since there was room for improvement in the cooling performance of the original bumper, we also started developing a bumper. By installing the bumper and bonnet at the same time, we were able to reduce the water temperature by -10 to 15°C. (As of March 2020)
The bonnet is essential for circuit driving (incidentally, the NACA duct on the OEM bonnet has almost no cooling effect). Appearance is not particularly important for this car, so it is important to design the duct in the right shape in the necessary position. Also, if you try to increase downforce, the mounting strength of the standard bumper is insufficient.
The VARIS bumper eliminates all of these shortcomings, and at the same time, it has an efficient duct layout as a cooling system. In this way, VARIS is working day and night to develop parts that can withstand circuit driving.
